The Ho'okela Award was established in 1985 as the "Retailer of the Year" award. The word "Ho'okela" means to strive or aspire for excellence. Since 1995 the "rainbow man" petroglyph award designed by Tiger Mosier has become a symbol of excellence. Over the years categories and criteria have been updated and modified to mirror today's constantly changing retail industry. Today, current categories include: Retailer of the Year, Retail Employee of the Year, Retail Business of the Year - State of Hawaii, Retail Business of the Year by County: Hawaii, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Neighborhood Retail Business of the Year, Best New Retail Business of the Year and E-Commerce Retail Business of the Year.
Crazy Shirts is honored to accept the award for "2009 Retail Business of the Year - State of Hawaii." The award was presented to CEO Mark Hollander at the awards Luncheon on October 15, 2009.
